Some Synaesthesia backgrounds

Hey Folks

I realised that today i still need to do some backgrounds for the films involving synaesthesia and other sorts so here is a few that i have done today, there are plenty more trust me, i also have to make some little motion graphics for these too but they will come along later on. two of these are for the music and the others are dubstep.

Bulletstorm, Gorey but visually pleasing environments

Hey Folks

Recently I have been playing "Bulletstorm" a game created by Epic Games which is a fantasy sci-fi first person shooter where you have to "Kill With Skill".

It is awesomely gory with amazing characters, a SHIT load of swearing and just killing enemies in the most funniest way possible. My kinda game to be honest, But when I play it I usually take a step back from it and just suck in the atmosphere of the game I think the environment is just awe inspiring and really makes me double think about my backgrounds, The images in this post of both gameplay footage and concept art created by Maciej Wojtala illustrates just now nice you can make a space environment. With the use of contrasting colours for sunlight like purples blues yellow and oranges all gelling together in the sky. I think i might go back and re-do my backgrounds and give them more of a visually pleasing look to be honest.

Planet Deckturn Isnt Feeling well Folks

Hey Folks

Whilst being in the studio i showed rudy all the stuff he needed to do to animate the Planet in 3D with the help of my animation mechanics studies and even showed him the videos of "The Binding of Isaac" to get a feel for the way this character was to be made. 

Now it comes to the stage where we progress onto the next stage of the animation where the evil CD comes out of the Planet and eventually goes up the Planets backside to cause even more terror. The way I wanted this to be animated was to feel like as if...um...well...uh...yeah something going up your backside. i watched a few people show examples and a lot of folk closed their eyes and eventually move so violently, but this is a planet so what do we do to get him to move violently without any arms or legs. Then I noticed somebody did something with their eyes so I tried to show Rudy what I wanted and we then went into animating.

This was the same process as the previous test with more exaggeration and some eye popping with a funny expression to make it just that bit better.

Binding of Isaac intro cut scene

Hey Folks

This is the introduction to the game "The Binding of Isaac" A game created by Edmund Mcmillen which is really good but if you wish to play this game then head over to www.newgrounds.com and play the demo or head to http://store.steampowered.com and find "The Binding of Isaac" on steam for about £4.00.

Anyways this video is on here not for advertising but to simply show you the animation, although it is very simple if tells the story quite well and if you watch the animation it is very simple with that moving style I don't particularly know what it is but I shall find out. If you watch there is a but where Isaac's Mother hears the voice of God and she will changer her emotion with very simple squash and stretch. This was the type of style used for the 3D planet on my film.

Planet Deckturn 3D Animation

Hey Folks

So I thought to myself as I was colouring my frames, hold on a sec what about my awesome looking planet animation.

So I popped in today to see my lovely fans and one of the 3D guys called Rudy who has offered to model and animate my planets for me. Now Rudy didn't know what way i wanted this character to be animated so what I did was show him the animatic and then a short clip from Edmund Mcmillen's "The Binding of Isaac". I explained to him that i wanted the first animation to be quite simple and just a slight change of expression to show the planet is curious of what is coming towards him.

I then showed him the Edmund Mcmillen Animation Mechanics page with the sketched frames and frame numbers on it. Now if you have been following the blog you will know that i have tested this planet animation out in 2D with after effects, and if it worked then it will be put into 3D.

I sat with Rudy and watched him animate the planet aswel as guiding him to show how I wanted it done. This is the animation test and I personally think it went quite well.

The Colouring Process

Hey Folks

I have been quite ill the past weekend and havent really had the chance to get on with some work but thankfully i am now recovered and am able to get back on it.

So we left off with revealing that i have finally cleaned every last frame for the film and am now onto colouring YAY GET IN. Colouring doesn't take a lot of time but its is a bit tricky trying to fill in everything neat and tidily, just like a childrens colouring book again but more advanced. So as you can see i have cleaned up the blob and shows a few examples of frames using different textures and techniques like motion blurring, plastic wrap effects and sponge textures for the smoke. I feel that i do have some time on my hands to enhance the quality of the colured frames and i think they look pretty awesome if i say so myself but what do you think.

The Clean Up Stage is Complete Woohooo


Hey Folks

Today is a good day, because today i have finally cleaned all my frames for the film, it has took from the 1st of june and til the 22nd to complete. It has been a very good process because of the techniques i have used to clean the frames i was able to give a unique style if line and effects to each character and frame. The characters have their own specific colour and details to them which will make the coloured frames and the animation just the little bit more effective. In some cases i have even improved the drawings of the original frames if you look at the blob frame at the bottom of the page it never had any details or any specific style to them just plain blobs but with this technique i was able to improve the frame.

Now that this stage is done it is now onto colouring the frames which will not take as long but will need some thought and imagination to get the colours just right on the film.

The Zombie March

Hey Folks

Here is another fully coloured up and animated walk cycle for the film. This is the zombie character who is basically the alien who is trapped upon the meteor. i want him to come back from the dead as a zombie but have a funny march to him.

I cleaned the frames in photoshop and Jamie coloured them up so good job to us both.

The tedious part of the game folks CLEAN and COLOUR

Hey Folks

wow I haven't been on here in quite a while haven't I, anyways that is because i am now doing the clean and colour stage of the game and believe me...I AM NOT LIKING IT AT ALLLLLL!!!!

It takes forever to clean and colour frames doesnt matter what kind of solution you have it still takes long. I am however cleaning all my frames in photoshop and once that has been done i am then colouring them in photoshop too and hopefully the final coloured frame will look good when animated.

Here is a few examples of one of my frames scanned, cleaned and coloured a test of the animation will be up soon folks.

a couple bits of these have been separated for less time like the mouth and his brain. I have also been experimenting with different textures and brushes to see if i can enhance the look of the coloured line and frame this one has been cleaned with a wet brush look to look like blood and with a sponge like texture on top of the colour.
